Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist Diplomate American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology | Dr. Lorna Rivera earned her Doctor of Medicine from Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines. She completed her internship at Sinai-Samaritan Medical Center with the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and did her general psychiatry residency at Loyola University Medical Center. She completed a fellowship in the sub-specialty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Institute of Juvenile Research. Dr Rivera believes in the bio-psychosocial model of providing comprehensive psychiatric care. Prior to joining Proactive Behavioral Services, Dr Rivera worked for several years in community psychiatry at Family Service and Community Mental Health Center of McHenry County where she was a staff psychiatrist working primarily with children and adolescents.
She also served as a consultant to McHenry High School and a number of therapeutic schools. Earlier in her career, Dr Rivera served on staff at Memorial Medical Center with the Centegra Health System in Woodstock.
Dr Rivera continues to do community psychiatry with The Kenneth Young Center. She specializes in the psychiatric evaluation and treatment of children, adolescents and young adults in their transitional years.
Her particular areas of interest include ADHD, Mood and Anxiety Disorders , and Autism. Dr Rivera is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Illinois
