As a young child, Betsy often found herself admiring people who served others in caring ways. She also found herself passionate about learning. For Betsy, she began at a young age to learn about people and teach others about the human condition. Since then, Betsy has used her knowledge, care, service to others, and understanding to benefit many families, children, and teens.
Betsy earned a B.S. degree in Nursing from Andrews University. Her need for intellectual stimulation, and to be with other people who enjoyed caring for others and to continue learning, led her to work at a hospital for a 10-year period. While working as a nurse at a hospital, Betsy worked in diverse settings including as an OB-GYN nurse, a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse, and then as a Neuro Intensive Care nurse. During the same period of time, Betsy also moonlighted employment in various Psychiatric units throughout Chicagoland. These experiences included caring for complex psychiatric patients in Intensive Care Units and patients residing on Neurological Intensive Care Units.
Betsy was employed by a pharmaceutical company, and while there, Betsy worked to develop a unique expertise. She has collaborated and been involved in a number of scientific ventures at Searle Labs, TAP Labs, Takeda Labs, Abbott Labs, and ABVIE Labs. During this period, she traveled across the world and meet some profoundly fascinating thought leaders in the medical field. While employed by a variety of different labs, she acquired knowledge while engaged in Cardiac studies, Gastrointestinal studies, Weight Loss studies, Safety, and various Cancer trials. Betsy also managed clinical trials worldwide for over 10 years.
Betsy returned to formal education to pursue her first Master's degree, a Masters in Science in the area of Leadership and Management. While working towards her degree, Betsy also volunteered at a community clinic. During her time at this clinic, she became intuitively clear about her true passion as a healer. She then completed her second Master’s degree in the Advanced Nurse Practitioner program at North Park University while focusing on her work in Psychiatry. Betsy serves as a Board of Director on the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing Board of Directors for Film Hope.
With a holistic and person-centered perspective Betsy addresses treating the body, mind, and spirit of each individual. In Betsy’s own words, she said “I view each individual as unique and believe that looking at the whole person includes understanding the complexity of the individual within the elements at play in their life. My goal is to develop a customized treatment plan that works for the patient and promotes optimal health and functioning.”
Betsy has a warm and accepting presence with her patients. She works with adolescents 13 years and up, and adults with a wide variety of presenting issues and diagnoses. Her experience includes, but is not limited to, treating Depression and Mood Disorders, General Anxiety, Menopausal Challenges, Weight Loss without medication, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and a variety of other clinical conditions.
